Mallett planning high-performance Saturn Sky

American tuner Mallett Cars is planning a high-performance version of the Saturn Sky. Mallett already sells two hotrod versions of the Pontiac Solstice. The first version sells for $37,995, can hit 60 mph in 4.2 seconds, and can beat a C6 Corvette through the quarter-mile. A top-end supercharged conversion package adds another 200 horsepower. The 600-hp beast can be had for around $60,000. “The Mallett V8 Solstice has been, and continues to be, a huge success,” the company said in a statement. “The Saturn Sky promisses to be yet another high performance addition to the Mallett Collection.” We’ll keep you posted as more details emerge…

Wow, so you mean to tell me that you can stick a big motor in a small car and it will go fast in a straight line?? NO WAY! Now thats engineering! lol Heck, I’d pay 100k for that, especially considering the body panels make it the most plasticky-looking car brand on the market and I love cars made out of plastic. I bet it would even outhandle, outbrake and outbalance an M3 too!

A big success: three orders?! Nobody would be stoopid (revise that: few would be..) to pass the better VETTE for this little chick car. Any local can stuff a V8 in it but that doesn’t give it any more resale than a GM bond.

You people talk a lot of **** about a car you’ve never driven. What makes it a chick car? Morons think the Miata’s a chick car too, but when I pilot a SPEC around the road course nobody’s talking much ****. Same goes for the Sky. It looks awesome, it handles well and with Mallet’s help it’ll outperform a Corvette in a straight line and probably any other car you can imagine - even your fat pig of an M3 - on a road course.

I road race. I’ve driven M-cars, I’ve driven FWD Hondas, I’ve driven AWD Subies, I’ve driven vintage Corvettes and Camaros and new F-bodies. Putting a big engine in a small car isn’t a new concept, but neither is automotive performance. Why should a GM subsidiary be criticized for taking a good performer and turning it into a monster performer? Your local redneck MIG welder might be able to put a V8 in something, but having in waranteed by a dealership for 40,000 miles is another story now isn’t it?

awesome points, arch…
and jim…
the car looking like a chick car to some poeople is a bonus, with 600 horses its a pretty damn serious sleeper… i think it actually looks better than the vette, outside and inside…
and i dont care about the resale value, because i dont think i would want to let go of a car like that…

I love the Saturn Sky more then the Pontiac Solstice. I wish I could get one with 600 horsepower. It would be great to go Woodward Dream cruising this year.

Okaaaaaaaaay. You want to play ‘let’s imagine’.. but what rate is GMAC going to give you? Zero down x 60mos? Think so..?!

I agree, Mazda was smart enough to track the hell out of the Miata to preserve some semblance of masculinity. Pontiac doesn’t have that history: only Donna and longhairs from the South bought the Firebird - and that had real power. How well is the Redline selling to the granola, please-hold-my-hand-while-I-sign crowd over at the big $$ looser, Saturn?

Chick car is loosly defined as: cute and underpowered. It is. The idiots didn’t bring out the GXP first. …t-h-e-n you slip in the Donna-car to run up the volume, but noooo; they chase the cheap-seats first. ..and when all them little chippies from the burbs come to school in one: game over.

The basic Solstice seems to be a competent car for the MSRP. Any dealer mark up is pure greed.
Stop looking for reasons not to buy a car. When I buy a car I look for one that I will still like after it’s paid for. I am the rare buyer that buys for the long term. I still own 4 of the last 6 cars I purchased and enjoy driving them all. Stop picking sour grapes. If you wouldn’t buy the car, why nit-pick it. Upholding promises made and meeting goals set count for a lot. Other than mark up the Solstice did. It has some style, substance and appears to be a decent return on money spent.
Yes, I did drive one the dealer had in stock. Maybe next year. Increased production and no mark-up.

Chick car? Most men are not even man enough to drive one to its full potential stock, let alone with a rippin v8…and might I add one of the best in the world, even if it is lo-tech. I dont see 911’s, M3’s, Boxsters, z4’s, SLK’s, Z’s, RX-8’s, Ferrari’s, Lambo’s, BMW 6-series, etc, etc, etc able to combine sub- 5 sec. 0-60 with MPG approaching 30 on the HWY. ( I actually got 32 on I-10 from LA to Phx with an avg speed of over 80-mph) Now, imagine that motor in a lighter car…hmm. You stupid ba$tard$ ripping it probably drive Corollas. You are a bunch of jerk-offs.

Fisrt, What cars are available in convertables? I test drove Miata,RX8,M3,350Z,Crossfire ,Sebring????, and Loved the SkyRedline. For the price I could get a new bike also( Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad). I think the Sky would look great with a racing rollbar. Now someone without my mixed priorities could get into the Sky and then work on sending it to Mallet . It would be my pick if I had’nt fallen in love with my 91 3000GT VR4. ($6600 used 135Kmiles $14,000 invested and pushing 545hp at all 4) . Yo… I say whatever gets you going and out there is what counts. Passion for the great things we can do in life and share with friends. ITs All GOOD!!
