Wickeddated, the part about the reflexes is not necessarily true – you can be old and quick on the draw. Reflexes are a matter of habit, ie. they can be honed with experience and time. So the opposite is true. Anyways, at least they need a thorough eye exam and revocation of license if they’re at risk of sudden death from heart disease.

Age doesn’t determine bad drivers, the drivers determine that. If you’re old and can still drive properly, then you should get to drive. If you’re younger and can’t drive, then get off the road. It’s why there are more frequent driving tests at older ages..

This guy is 84??? Seriously… just like there’s a limit on how young a driver can be (18 in most countries) there should ALSO be a law limiting how old you can be. An 84 year old man shouldn’t be driving. Whether or not he’s lucid and capable, the fact is that his reflexes are nowhere as sharp as a man half his age. Limit should be 18-65. Past that, give up your license, driving is not a right, it’s a privilege. Any traffic cop or court magistrate will tell you that.

I livce in Southern Cali. It’s been estimated that at least 1/4 of folks on the roads here are unlicensed. You can probably take a guess who they are.

I live in SoFLA too and I still have no idea how most people or old or young passed their drivers license exam. I mean if you are 85 years old, use trifocals, and have the reflexes of a dead cow, you shouldn’t be driving, regardless if you can afford a Bentley or not!

Or he could have lived in south Florida. Down here it seems that impossible that the majority of the drivers have licenses judging from the way they drive.

He must have lived in a remote area and not traveled very much or very far. It was kind of them not to charge him with anything. For an 84-year old man this will definitely have an impact on his welfare if he has to rely on other people to do his shopping, etc. I wish the article mentioned whether or not he lives alone, has a family, is a widower, has children or grandchildren visit him, etc.
