[Updated] Man selling million-mile Silverado on eBay for… $30,000

08/15/2008, 9:15 PM

By Andrew Ganz

A Catawba, Wis., man says he’s planning to put his 1991 Chevrolet Silverado on eBay tonight now that he’s crossed the million-mile mark. Crossing seven figures isn’t that common, though in the last couple of years we can think of a Saab, a VW and a couple of pickups that made that feat. But owner Frank Oresnik thinks he has something special.

Oresnik told the Associated Press that he plans to set a $30,000 reserve on the old pickup when it goes on eBay because he considers it a monumental achievement. Oresnik accumulated in the mileage in 12 years of owning it by delivering seafood from Chicago to small towns in Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota.

“I feel almost like the long-time NFL player as he goes into his last training camp knowing this is the end,” Oresnik told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. It’s unclear whether Wisconsinite Oresnik sees his Silverado as the Brett Favre of pickups, however.

Oresnik says that he thinks GM and Shell would be interested in acquiring the truck.

[Update:] Here’s a link to the auction, which went live earlier today.

You know, there probably is someone out there stupid enough to pay that much- but I’m hoping not.

Show me the service record for this thing!.. it’s probably been rebuilt about 6 times, had 4 trannies installed, and 3 rear ends. The only thing original is probably the speedo that says 1,000,000 miles…

Ya know… he could have just dug around behind the dash and rolled the numbers over himself.

Funny, KBB values your truck at about $1300, but the damn system won’t take 1 mil miles for mileage so had to use 999,999.

Join the million miles club instead buddy.

Chabot23, I believe he has had a couple of tranny rebuilds, not sure about the engine. I dont beleive the volvo p1800 that did this didnt have any rebuilds. So yeah this is BS!!!!

You can say what you want about any Big 3 product, the same go’s for Japans Big 3, and German’s Big 3. One thing we know is that you, I, and the person next to us will buy what they like, and what they can afford. What you think is a cool car, I may thank is not. Is your car meant to be a reflection of your wealth, how smart you are, your personality, your character, or how old or young you are at hart? I will tell you this, take a drive on your favorite road and ask your self are you happy with you car…
And if you say to your self no….. Give me a call I’m in car sales, I will hook you up!!!!!
But really your car is like you girl if you don’t like her no more, dump her and let some one elss get your sloppy seconds…

He’s not going to get 30k for it. And if he does the person who spent 30k should get nominated for the Darwin Award… j/k

Actually I agree that GM should buy it, or just trade him for a brand new Silverado and yes, use it for a marketing gimmick… They do certainly need it. (agreed DrFill)

GM should give him an Aveo5. If we average his MPG at 17MPG, that is 58,823 gallons of gas. Then we average $2.25 per gallon, that’s $132,532 in gas. Is he trying to get a return on that money?
