Could Ford ’s charismatic Americas Division president Mark Fields be the next CEO of Ford? Already a key player at the struggling U.S. automaker, many believe Fields would be suitable candidate to replace Bill Ford Jr. as CEO of Ford, should the embattled CEO step down or retire. “He had some really strong qualities for a CEO,” Henry Wallace, a retired Ford exec who had run Mazda , said. “He’s a good communicator, he’s decisive, he has a strategic mind-set.” Fields is the “kind of guy that people want to work for,” said Brian Kelley, a former Ford executive who is now CEO of Sirva, a logistics company based in Chicago. “He will get people to rally around him and rally toward a common goal.” Ford may not be ready for a change of leadership just yet, but if the time comes, all eyes will be on Fields.
