Maserati will reportedly use the upcoming North American International Auto Show in Detroit for the United States unveiling of the Kubang SUV.

The Kubang concept made its world debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, but has yet to show its face on these shores. That will likely change this January, though, as the Kubang is tipped to be part of Chrysler’s Detroit show lineup.

Despite its Italian nameplate, the Kubang rides on the same general platform as the Jeep Grand Cherokee. In fact, the Kubang will be built alongside the Jeep at Chrysler’s Jefferson North near Detroit. However, the road-going Kubang will feature unique sheet metal and a bespoke engine lineup.

The production Kubang will be offered with two powertrains – a Ferrari-sourced 4.7L V8 good for at least 450 horsepower and a 3.0L turbo-diesel V6 making 300 horsepower. Both mills will shift through an eight-speed transmission.

The Maserati Kubang concept will make its North American debut on January 10.
