While the major details of Maserati’s upcoming crossover are well known, there are still some question marks surrounding the vehicle. It’s unknown whether the car will come to the market wearing the Kubang name or adopt the Cinqueporte moniker, for example.

The crossover’s assembly point is the latest source of uncertainly, with reports indicating that the vehicle’s final place of assembly will be the Mack Avenue Engine Plant at Chrysler’s Jefferson North complex, which was the location of Viper production from 1992 through 1995.

The number two line in that plant will reportedly be converted to install certain Maserati-specific bits (including engine and interior components), while the rest of the car will be built with its platform-mates, the Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee, elsewhere in the Jefferson North facility.

The move would allow the crossover to be built on a relatively small assembly line, affording a greater level of attention to detail than might normally be possible. It would also save 150 jobs and create up 300 new ones for the number two line, which currently produces Chrysler’s soon to be defunct 3.7-liter V6.
