Maserati has issued a recall for model year 2008-10 GranTurismo Coupes and Convertibles over defective rear lights, according the National Highway Safety Administration.

A flawed lamp assembly can cause both the taillights and brake lights to fail, making it difficult for other motorists to see the Maseratis and increasing the risk of a collision.

Maserati became aware of the issue following a series of field reports and warranty claims.

A total of 1,768 vehicles built from June 2008 to March 2010 are being recalled. Maserati plans to notify owners later this month, and dealers will inspect and replace affected rear light assemblies free of charge.

Maserati also recalled model year 2009 GranTurismo models last summer over defective rear suspension tie-rods that could fail and lead to a loss of vehicle control.
