They maybach is not supposed to be flashy or exciting. It’s purpose is functionally as a daily transport limosine. It’s the car that your driver takes you to work in. The Phantom is the car that your driver takes you to dinner and the ballet in. I think that’s what Simon meant. People who buy these cars typically don’t have to worry about “which I’d rather own.” If there’s a question, they buy both.

In all honesty, even if you have all the money in the world, this is still stupid. For one, it’s not flashy enough for the money – it looks like a previous generation S-Class. Another reason is that you can buy a whole fleet of pretty much any car – limo – whatever and still have money left over for a nice house. What is depreciation on this anyway? Even if it’s 50% in ten years, that’s enough to put your kids through college. At Harvard.

aesir is almost right.. it’s a glorified S-class, but one from TWO GENERATIONS ago! All the interior accoutrements don’t really do much for your status when everyone thinks you’re riding in a 10 year old car! A distinctive exterior should be JOB 1 to save this brand.

LOL @ Simon Cowell! He actually thought Fantasia and that grey-haired guy had talent, so there goes his credibility as far as taste is concerned.

Simon Cowell made the comment on Top Gear that he has a Maybach because he sees it as a sort of private jet for the street. No one who owns one looks at the outside very much, it’s what the inside looks like that counts. I agree with that logic I guess. It looks just special enough so people know you are an elietest rich snob, but not nearly as conspicuous as the Phantom.

i agree with aesir. Mr. Jacob, who used to own jacobs field, has one that i i used to see it everyday. It was a dark gray with dark red/maroon. it is a very boring car in person. the interior is completely different however!
