Maybach Landaulet headed for the U.S.

04/07/2008, 12:00 PM

By Drew Johnson

When the Maybach Landaulet broke cover last year at the Dubai Motor Show, it was believed that the super-luxury convertible wouldn’t be for U.S. consumption. However, Maybach announced on Monday that the Landaulet will be headed to the United States.

The German luxury automaker failed to mention how many Landaulets it planned to sell in the U.S., but did confirm the car was headed to our shores. Maybach sales have been lagging in the U.S. but it’s unlikely that the low-production Landaulet will bolster U.S. sales. Since the brand’s re-launch in 2001, Maybach has only sold about 10 percent of the cars originally predicted for this market.

Like the Maybach 57 S and 62 S, the Landaulet will be powered by a twin-turbocharged V12 — good for 612 horsepower and 738 lb-ft or torque.

In true Maybach fashion, the price of chauffeur-driven open-air cruising won’t come cheap. Company officials say the Landaulet will sticker from $1.35 million when it hits the U.S. market this December.

and to think- for .20 cents a day, you could feed little julio in El Salvador, or little Nenavidinianita in Africa, but nah let’s pay 1.35 million on this car instead.

For 20 cents a day you can support fake charities set up by bastards driving something as tasteless as this.

1.3 million for a stretched last-generation S65 with half the roof cut off? I’m sure any limo company can do it for a tiny fraction of that cost.

They really ought to make the Maybach MUCH more distinct from the S-class if they hope to sell any.

Wouldn’t you rather buy a Phantom and take it to West Coast Custom for the Landaulette treatment?

I would, but screw all this luxury bs, I would buy an LP640 and a GT-R and a DBS and then call it a day with like half a mil in my pocket.

Soon to be seen on Unique Whips getting 24’s and cheesy chrome and gaudy crap for Fiddy-cent’s stable of fine vehicles that are pimped out beyond any taste what so ever. Well, I guess I shouldn’t say that, he likes them anyway. If you can afford a new car/vehicle, I guess you can do what you want to it (but that doesn’t make me like any more than I do) (but, come to think of it, who cares what I like)

I could get about 1000 +/- used LeBaron convertibles instead and paint them each a different color and put V8’s in them with 4WD.
