If vehicles like the MAZDASPEED3, the RX-8, and the CX-7 embody everything that Mazda has ever intended their vehicles to be, then the B-series pickup is the odd one out in the zoom-zoom family. The B-series sold in the U.S. is basically a rebadged Ford Ranger. A Mazda B-series is also sold overseas, but it is an entirely different vehicle.

The current B-series design has been around since 2002. As in years past, every B-series produced derives its name from its engine displacement. For 2008 Mazda offers a B2300 and a B4000. The B2300 uses a 2.3 liter four-banger while the B4000 uses a much more "truck like" 4.0 liter V6.
The B2300 is Mazda's rear wheel drive version of the truck. This model comes standard with a five speed manual gearbox (an automatic is an option) and features such as 15" wheels, a radio, antilock brakes, and four airbags. An option package entitled "SE-5" will add air conditioning, chrome bumpers, a tilt steering wheel, and cruise control.
The next model up is the "B4000 CAB PLUS 4" - now that's not a typical Mazda model name. The B4000 includes options such as air conditioning, four-wheel drive, rear doors with jump seats, a larger gas tank, and an improved suspension. The top trim for the B4000 is the "B4000 CAB PLUS 4 SE". This model adds an automatic transmission as standard equipment along with a trailer hitch, standard power equipment, keyless entry, and a limited slip differential.
