Mazda yesterday teased fans with a single photo of the new CX-9 crossover, due at the New York Auto Show next week. The release lead to much speculation about the platform that underpins the new car. According to a Mazda statement released late yesterday, the CX-9 does not ride on a stretched version of the Mazda CX-7 platform. Rather, it uses an entirely different architecture. What architecture would that be? Our best bet is it’s the same one that underpins the Lincoln MKX and Ford Edge. We’ll find out for sure at the show…

I thought that the Edge, the MKX and the CX7 were the same platform?

RE: CX-7 platform.
What LLN said. It’s NOT shared with the Edge and MKX despite what Ford may have said at the various shows:

I thought the CX-7 was on a stretched Ford C-1 platform. Must be, no way in this day and age that they would design a completely new platform.
