Teaser: Mazda to unveil new crossover concept this summer

06/16/2008, 9:34 AM

By Nick Aziz

Mazda will unveil a new crossover concept at the Moscow International Auto Show in August, the automaker announced Monday morning. Still unnamed, the concept was designed using Mazda’s ‘Nagare’ philosophy, which means “flow.” The same design theme was used on the Nagare, Ryuga, Hakaze, Taiki and Furai show cars.

Russia is one of Europe’s fastest-growing markets and is rapidly becoming the region’s largest automobile market. SUVs are particularly popular in Russia, with a segment share of about 20 percent.

The Moscow International Automobile Salon media days are on August 26 and 27, whereas August 28 caters for industry and trade specialists. The show is open to the public from August 29 through September 7. The new show car will be unveiled at the Mazda press conference at 10:15 on August 26 at the Mazda stand.

Mazda’s teasers are a heck of a lot better than Nissan’s garbage.

Gosh these guys are good. Rather than playing the retro, Bangle, or just plain boring card, Mazda is really separating themselves from the competition with some really nice and innovative designs. I hope these start a new design them that will perhaps seep into other types of products. I think we’re set for a new “organic” type of design theme with consumer electronics. The whole ipod thing is slowly fading away, thank goodness. There is only so much a designer can do with white, black and boxes with radii.

Yeah and there’s just so much “organic” a car can get before it starts looking like just another weed.

What are those, 32″ wheels with 5 series rubber? I like Mazda, but these artist’s sketches are dumb.

Somebody grew up playing with Johnny Lightning cars.

The head-on view looks like a mini-Caddy CTS.

How about applying this theme to the Miata? If it wasn’t so gay looking, I might consider it.

VictorRaikkonen, Mazfa already has the CX-7, the CX-9, and the Tribute, and they have a smaller more affordable people hauler in the Mazda5.
