If this were ever to be put into production then it would end up looking very similar to Seat's Leon. Just imagine it with smaller wheels, a more upright windscreen, a higher roofline for more headroom, wing mirrors, a rear-view mirror, a proper hatch back and more production-friendly doors.

I don't see anything to get excited about here, this is nowhere near production. Mazda's PR department are pushing out press releases featuring sketches from the design department to give the impression that they are a deisgn-led company. The cars they actually produce are very ordinary, with the exception of the halo-model RX-8.

Since they all employ buildings full of designers, whose job is to come up with sketches, concepts and ideas, I'm sure all the major manufacturers could release similar drawings every day of the week.

^I agree. I like Mazda and the vehicles they've been putting out but their concepts have been hideous. I found myself skipping over them at the shows the past couple of years. Where is a concept of a worthy RX-7 replacement?

So am I the only one who thinks the new Mazda concepts are possibly the ugliest automotive abortions in the past decade? I'm all for progress, but if this is progress, I don't think the future looks very bright. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Mazda fan, having been a former MX5 driver, and having worked with and driven a lot of RX-series cars, which are brilliant on the twisties or the track. That's actually why I'm so horrified at this possibility that Mazda's cars are going to end up being both ugly and dynamically unexciting in the future.

That front fender looks a lot like the upcoming Mazda2 prototypes that have been spotted.. would make a nice addition to that lineup, essentially replacing the long-departed MX-3.. even the glass-in-tailgate rear window is similar!

I like the shape of it, its a nice concept. But I hate the whole "cross over" trend. They're tall cars! They don't do off-road, so you might as well get a regular car.

The general shape of the Ryuga/Nazare/Hazake concepts fit a crossover better than a car.

Wow, they're really pushing their new design theme with this new wave of concepts they're rolling out with. Can we expect to see this new design philosophy applied to the next generation Mazda 6, 3, RX-8, etc?
