You guys need to stop feeding the No more oil for GM troll… waste of your time!

I wouldn’t mind a Mazda3 hatch with a diesel. Efficient, practical, fun to drive, etc.

Crazy thought… the Miata/MX-5 uses a version of that MZR engine, doesn’t it? Or is it entirely different? Regardless, I would imagine that shoehorning a diesel in the Miata wouldn’t be real tough! Diesel torque in a light, RWD roadster… WOW.

What gm diesel cars do we get in america? Oh and gm does not build there own diesels.

If the facts above are correct and it averages 42mpg, that might be worth paying a little more for fuel since the gas version probably = 26mpg on a good day.

1c3d0g –> Ford already owns a large portion of Mazda… durrrr.

I doubt diesels will ever really take hold in America… at least not in the car market. Big work trucks, sure… they can use the extra torque. But I doubt many would be willing to pay the extra costs of fuel and maintenance (urea injection, filters, etc) when gasoline engines are much simpler and much cheaper.

I love the torque numbers these new small diesels are generating, and while I understand diesel emmision standards are different in North America as opposed to Europe just what are the specific obstacles to a ‘global’ standard? I find it hard to believe it just boils down to some preconceived notion that North Americans and the US inparticular just won’t give up their gas engines no matter what- especially now.
