Mazda U.K. has now priced its GT4 race car that was
introduced earlier this spring. The 320-horsepower coupe can be raced in GT and GT4 classes in the U.K. and abroad, with prices starting at £125,000 (about $197,000), not including local taxes.
The 2012 season was meant as a development year for the car, though it hit the ground running, having placed fourth and fifth in its class at its first race at the Nurburgring. At Brands Hatch, the car earned its first podium with a third place finish. All cars ordered now will be built by Jota Sport in time for the 2013 season, when they will be fully homologated.
The price tag includes technical assistance from Jota and an "extensive" parts supply for racing accidents. The car weighs 2,200lbs and uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter MZR inline-four that uses a dry-sump lubrication system. The engine mates to a six-speed sequential gearbox with paddle shifters, while carbon fiber was used for the dash, centre console, doors, front splitter, rear diffuser, and wing. A Pi Omega D2 display and data logger is onbard as well, while protecting the driver is an FIA-compliant roll cage.
Options include a £1,950 intelligent power unit and soft touch control panel, a £1,450 lithium power pack, a £1,400 endurance exhaust, and £1,750 shocks that are four-way adjustable.
GT and GT4 races the car is eligible to compete in are in the USA, Spain, Portugal, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK.
