Mazda is set to recall 52,390 2001-02 Tribute crossovers over a mechanical defect that poses a fire risk. The automaker is cautioning owners not to park their vehicles in garages until the necessary repairs have been performed.
The issue lies with a faulty brake master cylinder reservoir cap that can potentially leak brake fluid. The leaked fluid can come in contact with the vehicles’ ABS wiring harness, which can possibly lead to a fire.
The affected crossovers were built between April 20, 2000 and July 19, 2002. The recall is expected to begin on January 30, at which time dealers will replace the vehicles’ brake master cylinder reservoir cap and modify the ABS electrical system free of charge.
Ford issued a recall earlier this month that encompassed 244,530 units of its Escape crossover, which is mechanically identical to the Tribute, over the same issue.
