Since they couldn’t get VW to agree to using the New Beetle, this is what they should use for a Transformers Alternators Bumblebee (Binaltech Bumble). It would totally work, and they could use the Genki model as Cliffjumper.

to start the sedan, five door and three door should be all in the state to fight the market on every level because it would not hurt to do so.it this was an the us market the yaris,fit,aveo,versa,and the little know about xd sales will slow.the only reason poeple buy fords and mazda because they think that they are getting just an little bit of what the europeans are getting .so just bring them the real thing not so watered down version. watering everything down is the reason why ford is in this big **** plie of problems. so dont bull **** the us market again. learn who to make some money an sale cars just by bring them to the states

Funny now Ford is worrying about duplicating product between Ford and Mazda. You didn’t care to produce 4 variants of mid-size cars (Mazda6, Fusion, Milan, MKZ). Same thing with the SUV, Truck etc. So now you are using the Verve as an excuse not to bring the 5-door Mazda2. Makes no sense!

I love Mazdas, but, I think I like the Ford Verve(Fiesta) a bit more than the Mazda 2. But, if this came over here with that 1.4 liter turbo-diesel, I’d be sold!

A 5-door would compete against the Honda Fit, Chevy Aveo, Nissan Versa, and Scion xD. This should be an interesting segment.

Considering the rapidly changing market conditions in the U.S., I still can’t understand Mazda’s reluctance to bring this car over here. This seems like a perfect opportunity for Mazda to expand in the U.S. market. It’s a great design that puts almost everything else in its segment to shame (although the upcoming Verve/Fiesta design looks very promising). I say bring over all three versions and see if they will sell.

Ironhide is right. This is the kind of classy urban minicar that an affluent person might keep in London or Munich. Helped by the Mini Cooper, the US market is getting to the point where there’s less stigma associated with a small car. I can see commuting in a Mazda 2.

If you look around the window line and b pillar, you can see this is a fake.

However, something that looks like this would do better in the States than other Mazda2 variants. Americans are fine with small 2-door hatchbacks because idiot American teenagers love to grab up these cars cheap and throw crappy wings and rims on to delude themselves that their little 4-banger with an economy-geared 5-speed manual is a race car. (See previous generations of Civics, Suzukis and Focus’s for prime examples)

As a 4-door compact commuter though, not so much.

This thing looks great! Ford Verve aside, Mazda has a knack for making even an econobox look sporty. Just because it’s cheap doesn’t mean it has to LOOK cheap i.e. Yaris.
