Early look: Mazdaspeed Axela and Demio Concepts

12/17/2007, 10:03 AM

By Drew Johnson

Following on the heels of the Mazdaspeed Altenza Concept, Mazda has released images of two other Mazdaspeed Concepts ahead of their 2008 Tokyo Auto Salon debuts. When the show kicks off next month, Mazda’s stage will also show concept versions of the Axela — also known as the Mazda3 — and Demio — the Mazda2.

Mazda has yet to release an English media kit, so not much is known about either vehicle. But like the Mazdaspeed Altenza Concept, the Axela and Demio appear to have a healthy dose of Mazdaspeed go-fast goodies.

The 2008 Tokyo Auto Salon kicks off on January 11th, so check back for more details after the cars’ official unveiling.

When I said white is the new black, I didn’t mean interiors; white leather is g-h-e-t-t-o.

A4: I was thinking the same thing. I do however see a little Impreza in this which may or may not be a good thing.

Rotman, you beat me to the Peugeot 207 comment. Seriously, that’s ridiculous how similar they are.

I like the Mazda2 concept’s exterior better, which I didn’t expect. I would like to see the Mazda3 look more like that.

I don’t like those skirts and stuff

A4, all models are existing models but will skirts, front- and rearlip etc. The title of this newsitem isn’t right

Mazdaspeed Axela and Mazdaspeed Demio is something different. These are the Mazdaspeed Axela Mazdaspeed Concept and the Demio Mazdaspeed Concept

Both cars are nice, very nice. I guess Axela is male (it has 6speed shifter) and Demino female version: smaller with a slushbox

carguy, Axela and Demio are Japanese market names only! They are called the Mazda3 and Mazda2 elsewhere on earth. Axela and Demio both have been in use and are well established in Japan and so Mazda decided not to use the same naming scheme. You WON’T ever see them in the U.S. unless someone “rebadges” his/her car.

Those skirts look too rice to me. I thought an all new Mazda3 is coming out in 09 or 10, maybe this one is a special model? Hatchback is far more useful than a sedan with useless trunk.

autonut: in that case, the names should be switched. “La axela” and “El Demio.”
