MB CL-Class, Audi TT, Corvette “automotive turkeys”

Forbes looks at the “automotive turkeys” of 2005 in a report published today. Bankers and theater producers call failures “turkeys,” and each year Forbes.com applies the term to cars as well. First on the list is the Mercedes CL-Class. “Now, where do they get off calling a $96,000 Mercedes a turkey?” Dan Lienert says he’s a fan of the CL, but with a sales decline of 53% this year, the CL has been a showroom dud. Joining the CL on the list are Audi’s TT sports car and the Chevrolet Corvette. All three are “amazing cars,” but sales have not reflected this. Also on the list are the Mercury Monterey minivan and Mazda B-Series. Luckily for Audi and Mercedes, they have replacements on the way for this year’s “turkeys.”

I hardly call Forbes any kind of authority when it comes to anything automotive. Correct me if I am wrong, but isn’t this the magazine that regularly puts out lists for the richest people, most expensive homes, richest celebrities, etc. I hardly call compiling statistics and making a top-10 list quality jounralism. They would be the last place I would go look to see what my next car will be.
