Despite carrying the baggage of a tragically techno-nerdy name, McLaren’s MP4-12C supercar is still light (and powerful) enough to post some impressive laps times.
McLaren recently brought a production-intent car to famous Nürburgring Nordschleife course in Germany for an official lap and came away with an impressive time of 7 minutes 28 seconds. Behind the wheel was Horst von Saurma-Jeltsch, whose day gig is Editor In Chief of Sport Auto.
Though not enough to knock off the current unofficial ‘ring record for a production car, a blistering 7:12 run achieved by the Dodge Viper ACR, that time still shows up Green Hell performances from impressive cars like the Pagani Zonda F and the Ferrari 458 Italia.
McLaren has released a video of the MP4-12C’s performance, but unfortunately chose to edit and clip the footage rather than provide an complete and unadultered look at the car’s ‘ring run. Still, the video is worth checking out for the mellifluous sounds of the MP4-12C’s 592 horsepower twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 – have a look and a listen for yourself below.
