McLaren-tuned Viper to see production?

The ASC Diamondback Dodge Viper — first shown at the Detroit auto show in January — could be put into production, according to AutoWeek. The 615 hp concept featured a carbon fiber roof, deck lid, rockers, fascia inserts, body trim and a massive OmniCarbon hood. Recently, a prototype has been spotted in testing with similar with a similar ventilated hood. According to the magazine, power is up to 650 hp, and 0-60 is accomplished in 3.5 seconds. The model could be offered during the 2007 model year, when Dodge plans to halt production of the regular Viper in preparation for production of the next-generation model.

Let’s hope it’s more reliable than the MP4-21 and it has no issues with heat shields!

If they were smart, they’d commit to the viper for perpituity…

As long as GM has the ‘vette, DCX will stick with the Viper.

Its an American type of sports car. Brash, loud, and very difficult to control.

/I would love to get my hands on a 1993/4 with the plastic side curtains

Insiders say that it will shed a lot of weight, use more exotic materials (for the SRT) and be more of an exotic.

Rumors also have a SRT and a non-SRT Viper coming out to the public… poised to topple the Vette once again, and compete in a different class from the current version.

This is so it can compete with the blue devil in the comming years since the C06 whas kicking it’s behind all over the place. Nothing more, if Chevy din’t up the anti nothing would have changed. Im sure the Blue devil will still be considerably less expesive, better quality, and better handling.

the difference between the the Z06 and the current Viper? Differential gears.

If Dodge or any owner changes the gears then the viper easily overtakes the Z06 in stock form.

This is to make the Blue Devil irrelevant.

But if thats the way you want to go you can take the money you’ll have left over (24+ G’s)from buying the vette and blow away any viper with upgrades also ;’). If your going to compare these vehicles we should do it in their stock forms, and not what they can become with upgrades. Spend enough money you can make a yugo fly.

I am not talking about extensive mods. I am pointing out that the minimal difference in 0-60 is currently due to the gears. The Vette can reach 60 in 1st, the Viper requires a shift.

The gearing difference is what gives the Vette the marginal advantage in stock form. It was a glaring mistake on the part of DCX. with equal gearing, the viper blows the vette out of the water in every category.

No excuses will have to be made in ‘08 though. This is a WHOLE ‘nother breed of snake on the way…

I think this car will kill the vette and even the Enzo with the torque it will have to offer

But the key attributes which are different in the Vette and the Viper is their horsepower, curb weight, torque but most important their suspension and brakes, etc…

Yah the Viper’s gearing was not a smart move for magazine times. The Viper is faster to every single speed except 0-60 and 0-100.

I’ve always been fascinated by the Viper’s amazing (and rather shocking) amount of torque the V-10 engine can produce…I can only imagine what a tuned-up version will do… :-D

VIPER’S ARE GREAT BUT WHATS THE POINT OF ALL THAT HORSE POWER WHEN YOU CANT REALLY USE IT. PLUS THE PRICEING ON THEM IN INSAIN, ILL TAKE THE VETTE AND PUT AFTER MARKET PARTS TO BEAT THE VIPER AND STILL HAVE MONEY LEFT OVER.
