Mercedes AMG offers to remove speed-limiters in U.S.

Recently, we reported that BMW has begun offering a kit for M3, M5, and BMW M6 owners that would remove the speed limiter that usually keeps the car from exceeding 155 mph (250 km/h). Unfortunately, this kit is only available in Europe. For some time, Mercedes‘ AMG tuning group has offered a similar kit in Europe. This summer, according to Ward’s Auto Mercedes brought the package stateside. This means AMG cars can now reach their true speed potential — in some cases, approaching 200 mph (322 km/h). In the 1980s, several German automakers entered into a “Gentleman’s Agreement” that their cars would not exceed 155 mph.

they should allow the limiters to be taken out, its not like its much of a difference in safety from 155 to 200…those speeds are only for tracks or the open spaces of montana..

155 is alredy speeding, so if your going to break the law, why not use the full potential?

Sounds like a very interesting business model where you pay for a car that can go well past 155, and then you have pay a 2nd time to actually go that fast. What an innovative way to steal money from people.
