Mercedes announces 400 hp SLK 55 AMG Black Series

06/09/2006, 9:44 AM

By admin

Mercedes-Benz today announced a special-edition version of its SLK55 AMG two-seater. The 400hp ’special series’ features a non-retratable carbon roof, 19-inch AMG forged wheels, AMG height-adjustable torsion sports suspension and a high-performance composite brake system. The front fenders are now wider and made of the ultra-light carbon-fibre-reinforced-plastic (CRP). The roof is also made of CRP. Power comes from a tuned version of AMG’s 5.4-liter V8, which offers 400 hp and 520 NM of torque. The lightweight parts cut about 100lbs from the vehicle’s curb weight. Zero to 62 mph takes just 4.5 seconds, down from 4.9, the automaker said. Like the regular SLK 55, this special model uses the 7G-TRONIC transmission with aluminium shift paddles on the steering wheel. A brace in the engine compartment provides additional rigidity and more lateral dynamics. Price in Germany will be 107,300 euros (incl. VAT). Gallery after the jump…

I’m with XPsionic. It’s as if they gave it a fixed roof but left behind all of the motors and other mechanical bits that made the car heavy to begin with.

Screw the fixed roof, id only buy this car for a drop top, or at least a T-Top.

107k Euros = 135k+ US based on today’s Euro close. Let’s see – the regular SLK55 is 61.5k MSRP US – this is over TWICE the price??? That cant be correct because if its accurate, who would pay double for 15 more hp and 100 fewer lbs?? Its not like this is like the CLK-DTM full-on Race Car…

If you find me that person, please send them my way because I have some seriously overpriced goods to sell them…

Guys…it has a Carbon Fiber roof, as we see from supercars, its not exactly cheap. Take a look at the M3 CSL. CF roof and various cuts in weight and they charge twice the price with like 20hp more. They pulled a CSL with this one. It should handle way better than the SLK55 anyway. Just too bad they dont stick a damn manual into a car like this.

haha amg, you almost got me. We all know the ‘63 is right around the corner! (or at least the 550… that’d be weird as it’d be an un-AMG’d v8, but you know it’ll fit)

no jim, chucky is right. u.s. autos suck. look at the quality of the SLK compared to u.s. offerings, no comparison.

this needs a manual option though. at least an OPTION.
