We have them in Canada and it was a total flop starting at 30 grand canadian which is roughly 27 grand american gets you a FWD hatch with cloth seats and a wimpy 2 litre 4 cylinder. there is a turbo available but that adds 10 grand to the price.

Yeah if you think the R-class was a failure man wait till this gets here.

Very smart if they don't bring it to the US.

"luxury doesn't mean huge, gas guzzling monster" - nexionly

You must not be American.
In America, luxury is a symbol of wealth.
You display it by showing how lavishly you can spend money without a care.
Luxury is not an object for you to have, but an idea to show _others_ that you have.

a nicely equipped, small, economically priced car is not a luxury car. It is just a nice small car in America.

Who cares, its an overpcied POS anyways. Next thing MB will bring over the A class...This is not Europe and no one wants a 30k subcompact car with a 100cc engine.

Stuart - Noone cares about American cars anyway (save for pickup trucks), and any self respecting enthusiast would stay away from any and every non-AMG mercedes made. No wonder they AMG every damn thing they build, cause if they didnt theyd have no character at all.

Diluting their image? Just bring it over, I'm sure people would like it. Its a Mercedes, and people have already showed they'll spend whatever to get one, (C230 Hatch)|

Anyway, MB cars arent for me anyway, I like fast, sporty, agile cars like BMW.

As a Yank, I agree with Phileas & Nexionly. I'm on my 4th MB and consider the C-Class cheepo quality to sell to people who want the Star in their drive (they don't garage them..) but won't/can't layout the cash for an E or better.. M-B should stick to the upperend and a 'quality' B would be a great way to take advantage of the move toward reality.

Mercedes may well be right in keeping the B-Class out of the States. Here in Canada we tend to prefer smaller, more european feeling cars, and the B-Class sells well, as opposed to fat-assed, crudely made pick-ups for fat-assed crudely made Americans.

I love the B, it's adorable. They are the only front wheel drive vehicle offered by mercedes and they are a good little entry level mercedes.

Understandably Mercedes is viewed as a luxury brand, but a vehicle can be a luxury vehicle and still be small and compact, luxury doesn't mean huge, gas guzzling monster.

Like the article above, people in europe will pay lots of money for a golf, or a little audi a3, or a bmw 1 series. Small economical, LUXURIES. Same thing with the B-Class. It's just a different size of luxury. In order for it to be accepted in the US, people need to realize that big isn't always better and more power doesn't get you any further ahead.

I'm with you Phileas Fogg. . . Arrogance.

I am really impressed by the constructive criticism displayed in most of these comments.

I personally like the B-Class and don't see a reason why Mercedes should not bring them into the US. I think it is a good entry-level Merc and nothing they should be trying to hide from customers.
