Chevrolet’s slow selling Volt range-extended electric car is already missing sales targets, but now it appears that it’s about to gain some stiff competition from an unlikely source.

According to a report by Automotive News outlining sales volume goals for Mercedes-Benz, the German automaker has confirmed that it will be bringing a B-Class car with a range-extender to the U.S. – a car that will not be available anywhere else in the world.

Little was offered in regards to the specifics of the car, but it is known that the new B-Class in standard form offer a coefficient of drag better than that of the Volt, and only slightly worse than the Toyota Prius.

Expect this model to arrive during 2013.
