Mercedes-Benz launches Special Edition trim for C-Class

06/17/2009, 12:26 PM

By Drew Johnson

In a bid to move the C-Class a bit up-scale, Mercedes-Benz has launched a new Special Edition trim line. Available on sedan and wagon body styles, the Special Edition trim line adds up-scale touches to both the exterior and interior of the C-Class.

The exterior of the Special Edition C-Class features polished aluminum body accents, a grille-mounted Mercedes star, chrome bumper highlights, darkened headlights, and unique gray paint job, and five-spoke 17-inch wheels.

The Special Edition’s interior is also spruced up beyond that of the standard car, but is based on the Avantgarde trim line. Changes include sports seats with a beige trim used throughout the cabin. Aluminum accents abound and the Special Edition package also adds a multi-function steering wheel and 4.5 inch display mounted in the gauge cluster.

Adaptive suspension and brakes, bi-xenon headlights and Parktronic parking assist are also included in the Special Edition package.

Depending on engine options, the Special Edition trim will add between €2,689 and €3,879 to the price of a C-Class. As of now the Special Edition package is only available in Europe, but could surface in the North American market.

All I see here is a repackaging of already existing options and packages. How is this Special Edition again?

“a grille-mounted Mercedes star”

Maybe I am just insane but don’t all Mercs these days have a giant star mounted on the grill already?

No they don’t, it was supposed to be for Coupes but now even the C-Class has it, as you see
. I don’t like this new ideas so I’m holding until MB gets back to what it used to be.

if they brought down the price to 20gs even then I would buy it. That is all it appears to be worth. MB please get it together!

How the hell does MB survive ? They are a niche brand in terms of numbers but have a million different models (C, CL,CLK etc. etc. )

They survive by spending about $3000 per car sold in the U.S. on advertising. That $3000 is of course, paid for by the purchaser. Nothing like spending your own money on spending your own money. The DuhBubbas rule!

No offense, but the interior of MBs as of lately are looking very cheap!
