The Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG convertible features the first engine totally developed by Mercedes' in-house tuner, AMG. Whereas previous engines started life as standard Mercedes units that were heavily massaged by AMG, the 6.3-liter V8 under the CLK63's hood is completely an AMG design.
Peak horsepower is 475 and torque tops out at an equally hefty 465 lb-ft. A strong 7-speed automatic transmission helps put the power to the rear wheels. The Speedshift transmission, also developed by AMG, features three shifting modes - comfort, sport and manual - as well as Formula 1- style paddles.
Only available as a convertible, the CLK63 AMG adds a sport suspension with 18' wheels (over standard 17' in the CLK550 and CLK350), as well as AMG-specific design touches inside and out, including an aggressive body kit and aluminum, rather than wood, trim.
CLK63s come almost fully loaded; the only notable options include a navigation system, keyless access and rear side airbags.
