Mercedes-Benz used its press conference at the 2009 New York Auto Show to reveal a new version of the high-performance E63 AMG Sedan for the 2010 model year onward. Based on the redesigned E-Class, this German hotrod is powered by Mercedes' familiar 32-valve 6.2-liter V8 which generates an amazing 518 horsepower and 485 pound-feet of torque. This model makes an additional 9 horsepower over its predecessor. The E63 AMG should get from zero to 60 in 4.4 seconds, on its way to an electronically limited 155 mph. With amazing acceleration like this it's no wonder Mercedes offers an optional set of carbon-ceramic brakes.

The new E63 AMG sees a modest bump in power compared to the previous model by the same name and is also said to have improved fuel economy to the tune of 12 percent. Most of this gain can be attributed to the car's new MCT dual-clutch, seven-speed transmission. This amazing gearbox can switch gears is just under 100 milliseconds. The new transmission also features four driving modes: Controlled Efficiency, Sport, Sport Plus and Manual.

The E63 doesn't suffer from a lack of options. There are two premium packages (aptly dubbed 'Package 1' and 'Package 2') and a driver visibility package available as well as a host of individual options. Some of the more notable options include the power trunk lid from package 2, the ala cart rear-seat entertainment, and the voice recognition and rear view camera from package 1. To distinguish the AMG model from lesser E-Class sedans, the E63 will sport AMG-specific 19-inch wheels as well as unique front and rear fascia and AMG's signature quad-exhaust treatment.

The E63 AMG will square off against industry heavy weights such as the Cadillac CTS-V and BMW M5. The E63 borrows its Direct Steer steering system from its SL63 sibling while getting deriving its wider front suspension from the C63.

This rear wheel drive, street eating monster has a price tag of $85,500 in the base configuration. Options include a $2,500 navigation system, a $2,900 active safety package with blind spot detection and Distronic automatic braking, a $1,000 panorama sunroof, a $1,750 night vision system, and more.
