The past few days have been busy for Germany's Nürburgring. First a Chevrolet Camaro SS prototype showed up at GM's Nürburgring facility, then Nissan engineers began taking hot laps in the GT-R V-Spec. Now spy photographers have spotted Mercedes-Benz' 2009 E-Class making its way around the 'Ring.
As indicated by the photos, the E-Class will lose its round headlights in favor of two-piece units similar in overall shape to the new single-piece lights on the new SL-Class.
Because the new W212 E-Class is an entirely new car, it features a redesigned interior with new technologies and more room for passengers. New features include the latest generation COMAND interface and night-vision technology borrowed from the S-Class.
The exterior design is expected to follow in the footsteps of the S-Class, and more recently, the new C-Class. So far, most of the design elements appear entirely predictable, although we'll hold final judgment until the official unveiling in 2008 or 2009.
Of note, the headlights do appear to feature a split two-piece design predicted by various illustrations.

Those disguised headlights look like they will be somewhat similar to what is on the new 2009 SL-class. At least, the general shape anyways.
if it looks anything like the c-class there may be a glimmer of hope for excitement
Hard to really tell anything with those pics. Anyway, I hope they don't go too "CLS" on it.
After the new S and C classes I'm willing to bet that the next E will look awesome.
look at the size of the black square in the centre of the grill. Obviously the 3 pointed frisbee lives on. They should make it glow in the dark or something. Or perhaps laser projection so that you can see your Merc logo on the back of other vehicles. Kind of like the Batman thing. Certain AMG models already look like Batmobiles anyway.
This looks very ordinary to me. Unlike the car it replaces, this car's design is not timeless. I don't think it will look fresh once it's been on the market for a year or so. I feel the same way about the new C-class. Except for the S-Class of the mid-90's and for the most part, I have always thought Mercedes designed "instant classics". Not so with this one. JUST MY LITTLE OL' OPINION.
The headlights look like they're gonna be just like those of the new SL. That is a bad thing IMO.
Mercedes-Benz styling hasn't been great since Bruno Sacco retired.
The latest theme is slightly better than the Chrysleresque trash designed by Murat Gunak. (last Gen C class, clk class etc.)
I can't tell if it's a big C class or a small S class, boring!!!
Those taillights look really odd. Very soft and non-linear, a big departure from the C and S class (and the rectangles on the photochops), and actually look a lot like the old CLK lights!
looks like the new c it should get the fuel saving treatment that they c class in getting because this car will burns some gas in its 5.5 and 6.2 liter v8, i would test drive the 300-310 hp v6
As long as they keep the E Class signature 4 pieces front headlights, they'll buy it.
The styling looks less than inspired
its ring season!!!
So sayeth the KU Jayhawks
the only thing it needs is to loose some weight and add horsepower and have better fuel ecomony, too be an better car.
