Early look: 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

If our collection of spy photos and illustrations hasn’t already given you a clear enough idea of what to expect from the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, these latest leaked photos will. Two images have surfaced online showing the production executive sedan with absolutely no disguise.

The photos come in addition to a slew of recent spy photos, including pictures of the interior. The car has a a decidedly more angular interior design to match its sharper exterior, as evidenced by recent photos.

The E-Class will lose its round headlights in favor of two-piece units similar in overall shape to the new single-piece lights on the new SL-Class.

Because the new W212 E-Class is an entirely new car, it features a redesigned interior with new technologies and more room for passengers. New features include the latest generation COMAND interface, lane-departure warnings, an eye-movement monitor, traffic-sign identification, road-condition sensors, and stability control that accounts for crosswinds, camber changes, and tire wear.

The exterior design is expected to follow in the footsteps of the S-Class, and more recently, the new C-Class. So far, most of the design elements appear entirely predictable, although we’ll hold final judgment until the official unveiling at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Engine-wise, we’ll get the usual V6- and V8-engines, plus a normally aspirated, 500-plus-bhp 6.3-liter V8 for the E63 AMG model.

The trunk and tailights reminds me of the old Infiniti I35.

I don’t like this at all. It looks like a Lincoln MKZ in the back with the size of the lights and the chrome going all the way to them. The illustration from the summer was much better executed. Very poorly done.

In the first pic (the burgundy one) it looks like the second generation Q45 from that angle. Look at the doors and the back light
As far as the i35 comment the Genesis already stole that look I cant beleive that interior MB cant afford to do things like this. The competition is stronger and stronger with the new TL the Genesis and of course the A6 Bimmer 5 and Lexus GS. MB needs to rethink this

Most new Mercedes cars look great from the front end, and this is no exception. Where they’re losing it is from the b-pillar back. loudpedal’s right: take the 3 pointed star off the trunk lid and I might even have guessed Korean as well.

I agree with all who posted before me. In short, it looks like a lot of different, past designs by almost every automaker EXCEPT Mercedes-Benz.

.
But what does it matter? It will sell well anyway. I know many Benz owners and most buy out of habit.

Please: This has got to be a joke! I’m usually quite sympathetic when it comes to MB’s, but judging from these pictures this MB looks absolutely un-classy and hideous. Sorry!

Its not great I have to admit, but saying that the Genesis is competition for this is ****ing crazy. Are things that bad in USA now that Hyundai is considerred a nice car? Cos I can tell you in the rest of the world, they are still as crudy as they ever have been…Genisis…**** me

Rover3500,
I was thinking the same thing, these Americans think in a Hyundai when talking about luxury sedans, they don’t know what the competition is, that’s why they have Buicks n Cadillacs.

BTW I don’t like it either.
But something I have noticed is that people look at it, says yuck, look again says “hey isn’t that bad”, then every time they look is better and suddenly everybody likes it because of it look of classiness or it’s quality.
I know I have.

HAhaha.. It used to be funny when people talked about Japanese and Korean cars trying to look like European cars. This E class is straight up a copy of the Genesis. No. The Genesis looks better.

First thing I saw in the rear was an MKZ. The side is way to “wtf” looking and the front is weird. So overall, it’s an ugly turd!

I wonder whether it will look better “in the metal”. In two dimentsions, I agree with some of the disparaging comments. However, the thing that concerns me more (I may be replacing my 2004 E500 with this car) is the angularity both inside and outside. The interior of the current E class is the best ever in my opinion of any car/any year. Going with the BMW double binnacle look, the angular looking dash components, the pointy grill, the rectangirregular headlamps all abandon the subtle curvy nature of the current car.

Looks OK, but my biggest beef is that it should be out NOW not in a year. Product timing is bad, with the old E-Class and especially the CLK looking ancient compared to the S-Class and C-Class in their showroom.

the front looks pretty good, but the back does really look almost exactly like the hyundai sonata !!
(wtf)

if you absolutely want a benz, get the s-class!

if you’re looking for a car in the e-class segment, get a 5-series (much better feel and handling !!)

I like it. IT’s a return to the roots - oversized with huge rear overhang. Finally looks like the rolling barge it’s supposed to be. Recently too many MBs have been looking cute and slick. Not brand appropriate.

I dont understand why everyone seems so surprised. Design-wise, this is exactly what’s to be expected when MBZ started remodelling their lineup around the new S-Class. The sharp interior and exterior curves all echo Mercedes-Benz’s new design theme.

Personally, I think that, for what it is, Mercedes-Benz did a pretty good job with the whole front fascia and side profile designs, both of which echo, rather artfully, the previous E-Class but still maintain a fresh look. However, I do hate the rear taillights. Overall I think they did a good job.
