Mercedes-Benz R-Class gets a major revamp [Spied]

The Mercedes-Benz R-Class has found sales hard to come by lately, but it looks as though Mercedes engineers are preparing to give the crossover vehicle a shot in the arm. Our spy photographers spotted a heavily camouflaged R-Class while out testing, indicating that a refresh is in the works.

Originally, a new version was scheduled to arrive for 2013 – but based on the looks of what appears to be a mule for the next generation – or a heavily reworked facelift – major changes to save the model may come before 2013.

No other details are known about the project at this time – including any powertrain updates – but check back for more information as it becomes available.

Based on those pictures re-do will not affect sales. The gentleman in the first photo might: more people will want to see a freak show.

This should be called the H-class, for “hearse”. I wonder why MB decided they had to build a $50K Ford Freestyle?

The areas M-B has decided to revamp appear to be the ones that need it least.. how about fixing that droopy rear quarter window and the too-low backlight that doesn’t even line up with the greenhouse.. not to mention the gimmicky taillights and ridiculous side swoop. The headlights and rear fasciae are the least of the R-class’ problems.
