At more than double the price of Mercedes-Benz's entry-level (for North America) S550, the S65 AMG had better include quite a bit more car.
One look at the specifications sheet is all that's needed to confirm that you're getting a lot more car for your $194,825 check: An astounding 738 lb-ft. of torque and 604 horsepower from a turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 engine provides more than a little improvement over the standard S550 V8. The AMG-assembled V12 is so torquey that Mercedes' impressively strong seven-speed automatic was deemed too weak. Instead, the S65 includes a five-speed automatic.
Fuel economy is dismal at best - 11/17 city/highway, according to the latest EPA testing procedures (which are revised from previous years).
In addition to the hand-built muscle under the hood, the S65 adds an AMG bodykit, 20" wheels, an active sport suspension, and numerous interior sports luxury features, like an alcantara headliner. Like all S-Class sedans, the COMAND system with its control knob, is included as standard.
As you'd expect, everything comes standard on the S65, including multi-adjustable, power, heated, ventilated, massaging seats at every position, a panoramic moonroof, a nightview camera that displays through the LCD gauge cluster, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control and a booming harman/kardon audio system. The S65 - the most powerful Mercedes-Benz production sedan ever created - is lacking in very little. Especially power.
