Lexus are crappy bigger toyota. Seriously, for the amount of money being spent on designing them you would expect a master piece not a Merc/BMW/Audi combo design language with lifeless handling and just as lifeless engines.

i dont know why some people actually think lexus is bland, i know they have seen one in person, the is350 is one nice car, really nice car. you get it all with lexus, a seriously smooth,clean,fun, beautiful car that will start everyday no matter what and look good while hauling ass at the same time. its a true recipe for success.

Lambo: That’s interesting. Yeah, Mercedes’ are still great, but I’m starting to get to the point where there isn’t a Mercedes I would buy if I could. Not because I don’t like them, but just because there are other cars I like more. In this segment, I would get a 650i as you said earlier. Or maybe an R8 for a few extra grand–though they don’t compete directly.

Get Real: You’re damn right about that, everyone ignores MB quality issues AND Lexus’ quality strengths, and all they do is insult Lexus without thinking that it might be nice to get in your $60,000 without having to hit up the shop.

lotusfire: If you can find me one Mercedes that has positive reliability ratings, I’ll be impressed. The SL has notoriously been bad w/ reliability for years, it’s never really improved. Doesn’t stop me from loving MB though

F451: true, very true, and unless they can ever make their interiors look halfway decent for the price range they’re in, and finally come up with a real, full size competitor for the S-Class/7-Series/A8/LS460, they will never, ever have a chance of regaining that. Though I do like Cadillac, one of the only GM brands I like

can somebody explain that when your mercedes breaks down its called “an unscheduled maintenance visit” and IF your cadillac braeks down its called a piece of shit? for the god damn price of a friggin mercedes and the exclusivity it should be the most reliable car in the world. nice interiors for sure, REALY NICE INTERIORS but less than average reliability.

^^ That’s true, my friend had a lot of problems with his SL. But then again it was an ’03 and I heard that was a particularly shaky year in terms of quality. It’s also worth noting that now that he fixed them (though not cheaply) it’s the best car he’s ever had.

Along with all the work put into this appearance package is anything going into the quality problems with Mercedes? There are a lot of beautiful cars, as this one is, that run with less reliabilty than Borat’s 4,000 year old donkey cart mode of transportation.

A lot of people here hate Lexus and their bland cars, but for the big $$$ you pay for these cars you don’t want problems when you get up in the morning and need to get to the office, you want the car to run.

The only reason why anyone would care about Cadillac is if they’re American living in US. Even then it would be within certain racial groups and those with certain nostalgias.

This car looks badly outdated. Still elegant, but outdated. I like the XLR-V exterior much better, but both interiors are very nice.

Mercedes has remained synonymous with luxury in the States; Cadillac lost that title just after the late sixties, and has never been able to regain it. The interior of the SL puts to bed anything Cadillac has to offer. And resale value…well…we won’t go there today (or any other day).

V-Series: You’d take an XLR-V? Really? Haha for some reason I’m not surprised. I like the XLR and the XLR-V, in fact I like all V-Series cars, but from everything I know/have read, the SL is overall more refined, and more of an overall pleasure to drive than the XLR/XLR-V as it has superior handling along with a far, far better interior. But to each their own, I personally would take a BMW 650i over this, so it’s all really objective. The front end doesn’t look sporty at all… it looks anything but sporty I’d even say. Otherwise, it’s a gorgeous car. I love the rear end. The car’s just as cool now as it was when it came out.

I still think this is a gorgeous car, I know everyone thinks it looks dated, and in some ways I suppose that’s true when looked at next to a 650i or XK8, but it still has classic good looks, and is still impeccably finished inside.

That interior is nice, and the wheels are pretty sweet looking. I agree that the rear looks a little old, but it still looks better than most other luxury roadsters. You know what MB can do with exteriors, give them a little while and they will sweep you off your feet.
