The diesel version of the all-new SLK will make its world debt at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show., but today we have a handful of brand-new official images showing off this unique oil-burning drop-top.
Dubbed the SLK 250 CDI, the roadster employs a 204 horsepower, 368 lb-ft of torque version of Mercedes’ 2143cc four-cylinder diesel engine. Those figures make the SLK 250 CDI the most powerful diesel offering in its class.
Shifting through Mercedes-Benz’ 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission, the SLK 250 CDI can accelerate from 0-62 in 6.7 seconds, carrying on to a top speed of 151mph. The SLK also has the best passing power in its class and is capable of accelerating from 50 to 74mph in 4.3 seconds.
Mercedes describes the SLK 250 CDI as a “sports car with the fuel-economy of a sub-compactâ€, and the figures appear to support that claim. The oil burner can achieve better than 57mpg and can cruise from the North Sea to a beach on the Mediterranean on a single tank.
Following its Frankfurt debut the SLK 250 CDI will be immediately available for order with a starting price of 41,828.50 euros.
