Remember that strange Mercedes-Benz “SLR Speedster” prototype spied in recent months? Well, it turns out it’s actually called the McLaren SLR Stirling Moss. The exotic model — which, in typical speedster fashion has no windscreen — will be on display at the Detroit auto show next month for all to see.
Powered by the same 650 horsepower supercharged V8 as the regular SLR 722, the car is constructed almost entirely of carbon fiber, making it good for a zero to 60 time of just 3.5 seconds, and a zero to 186 mph sprint of 26 seconds. Capable of achieving 217 mph, the Stirling Moss has vertical doors, a deployable air brake, and a manually operated tonneau cover that can cover the entire cabin, or just the passenger side.
The special edition car is the last model to come out of the Mercedes-McLaren partnership, which is all but over. With the SLR about to be discontinued, the Stirling Moss model will allow the nameplate to go out with a bang. Think of it as one final hurrah for the SLR before it’s succeeded by the all-new SLC. So Pricing is expected to be in excess of €750,000, and production will be limited to just 75 units.
The vehicle is named in honor of Sir Stirling Craufurd Moss, 79, a retired racing driver who competed for Mercedes-Benz, Maserati, and Lotus, among others.

Ugh, M-B dropped the ball on this one. It looks like it came out of Speed Racer. Cartoonish, and not in a good way, as far as I’m concerned anyway. Actually, I’m not a huge fan of the “regular” SLR either, it’s out of proportion, scale-wise. I never thought I’d say this, but the hood / bonnet is too long. I didn’t think there was such a thing as a hood being too long, but I don’t like this car.

Eisen Faust, that’s frickin’ hilarious. Because uneducated footballers are the only customers here.
I have to agree with those that think it’s a worthless heep. Especially considering it’s price. At least a Veyron gives you function, opulence, and supersonic speeds. Looks like an SLR mated with a Calaway and got beheaded. And it’s got an ugly rear.

I understand where the price is coming out of, but still even if it is an all-time exclusive artistic design + performance machine from ML+MB I still think it’s way too much… I understand why the mona-lisa costs millions… but why this will cost a million… not really… it looks unique… i like it, but no, not even if I had all the money in the world, i’d be a little put off driving in that when I consider how much I spent on it… but salutes to your ended partnership, it was great, lets see what the SLC will bring us

Sir Moss is very worthy of the honor of having such a car (powerful, open-air, bespoke) bare his name. I do think, though, that the original 300 SLR he piloted is a much more beautiful car. It looks good from the sides, but the front should have kept more of the original SLR character.
