Spied: 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLEby Ronan Glon
Our spies sent us exclusive photos from Prague.
Our spy photographers have sent us exclusive images of the next-generation Mercedes-Benz GLE doing its best to hide from their lens in downtown Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic.
Formerly known as the ML, the next GLE will move closer to Mercedes' current design language by adopting styling cues from the smaller GLC. It notably receives bullet-shaped headlights, a more upright front end, and horizontal taillights with LED inserts.
The spy shots give us a good look at the SUV's silhouette. It retains the rakish C-pillar that has characterized the model since the first-generation ML made its debut in 1997 but designers added more slope to the D-pillar for a sportier look. Our spy photographers told us the GLE's overall dimensions won't change drastically from the current generation to the next.
Earlier spy shots revealed the interior of a right-hand drive model. Like the E-Class, the GLE adopts a dual-screen dashboard with a bezel-less design. Most of the switchgear comes from the E-Class, too. The center console-mounted grab handles Mercedes introduced on the second-generation model and later deleted will return.
Mercedes-Benz will introduce the 2019 GLE in the coming months. It could make its debut at the biennial Paris auto show, or the brand might choose to introduce it at a standalone event. It will arrive in showrooms either late this year or early next year.
