Spied: 2019 Mercedes GLE shows its interiorby Drew Johnson
The new GLE will have a thoroughly modern interior.
Mercedes-Benz's next-generation GLE mid-size SUV has been spotted testing on the streets of Ann Arbor. Although the exterior of the new GLE is still covered in camouflage, our spy photographers were able to snap a few pictures of the SUV's production interior.
Like the latest E-Class sedan, the GLE adopts a new dual-screen dashboard with a bezel-less design. Most of the GLE's touch points also look familiar — the wood, leather and control switches look like items that you'd find in any other modern Mercedes.
The one styling deviation in the GLE's cabin is a dual grab handle setup on the center console, similar to that used on the first-generation Porsche Cayenne. The design cue looks a little awkward in photos, but we'll hold final judgement until we see the GLE in the flesh.
Although the front and rear of the GLE are still covered in heavy camouflage, it's clear that the exterior styling of the SUV will mimic that of the smaller GLC. That should mean softer lines with a more modern look overall.
Mercedes is expected to unveil the new GLE this year, with sales slated to begin in either late 2018 or early 2019.
