Its funny alot of people bag the SLR Mclaren saying its ugly and thats the final story and move onto ford and shelby... But how many ford GT's out there can keep up with an SLR mclaren on a track, and yet be able to drive cross country for endless amounts of miles without breaking down once.

Go watch Jeremy Clarkson talking about the SLR on Top Gear, and he made a great point, a super car with supercar conviencence, its brilliant... and you shouldnt be supprised from from the price tag.

Mclaren is nothing more than a Corvette wannabe that failed to impress. They should hire some GM engineers next time and maybe, just maybe they'll build a car worth buying.

Nah, who am I kidding, everyone would rather have a Gm product over this pile o shit. :D

Jazz, as long as Mercedes flows it's strategy of mushy steering, overweight and automatic slushbox cars to McLaren like it did with the SLR then Ferrari has nothing to worry about. The SLR is a car for rich guys' wives like Donald Trump and Erikson (Malibu Enzo crasher) and heiresses like Paris Hilton. McLaren hasn't built a real drivers car since the F1.

Why would DaimlerChrysler do this? The only reason that I can come up with is that they want to build cars under the McLaren marque to compete with Ferrari and not be beholden to a Mercedes shape and platform.

Seriously as great a car as the SLR is it is just wierd looking from certain angles. Mostly the front and side.

Lotus has been working closely with nissan on the new gtr's suspension, cosworth on the engine, and renault on the materials and transmission. Go Carlos! Back on topic though, McLaren doesn't need to make a new F1 road car, IMO. They've established themselves as a capable design house and engineering firm with the production of that vehicle, and now they're looking to improve their name as a general supercar manufacturer. Supercars these days don't have a specific cylinder or door count anymore, and they don't have to be mid-engined either. But a Mid-engined, low displacement high-revving v8 in a lightweight composite chassis would do wonders for marketing as a new successor to the fabled F1. Look at the Caparo T1, which in my opinion, is the true follow-up to the 90's Mclaren F1. 3 of the top designers for the Mclaren teamed up together to build this road and track monster, and it's the only vehicle that reads a spec sheet damn similar to that of the current Grand Prix cars. Either way, McLaren won't stain it's name building a car that won't wear it's badge properly.

Lotus has a consultancy division called Lotus Engineering that advises numerous manufacturers. I think it's mostly suspension related work. The car won't necessarily be badged as such ie: Isuzu Impulse or the formidably Lotus Carlton, but many go to Lotus since they know their schizzle.

Volvo might not be great but at this moment they can make more money then the whole of GM put together including Saab. Personally I prefer Mercedes either way

For the record I tried talking in a unbiased manner. Anyway I think Benz should go through with purchasing the rest of the company because it would help both parties. Question, what is going on with Lotus, are the still thinking about potentially doing work with other car brands? Cause if they are that would be sweet powered by McLaren, tuned by AMG, and suspension by Lotus.

I kind of disagree volvo does make some nice cars like the S 60R, I personally think their only problem is that they are luxury-sport cars but that makes no sense cuz as a sports car its over weight and its underpowered. Still they are nice cars + their safe. So Eisen Faust I kind have to break it to you Saab sucks. They are also heavy, underpowered, less reliable, and according to me they look intensely ugly. Either way they are both pointlessly overpriced.

I believe the only reason they didn't produce the amazing chrysler ME-four12 is because of Mercedes not wanting anything interfering with the sales of the wanna-be supercar SLR. Sorry, I just don't like it.

@ megator,

Alonso may want to reconsider his move to McLaren if the reliability does not improve beyond what we've seen.

Imagine the Mclaren F1 with the Chrysler ME4-12 AMG Quad turbo. Shit that would be a possible 280mph. Anyway seems like a good idea as long as they bring out the new models with Mclaren badges and not Mercedes-Benz.

P.S. AMG is a tuning company, Mclaren actually makes cars. Its like comparing Shelby to Astom-Martin @ Ford

Especially jealous of the Volvo. Not much a girl wouldn't do on the front seat of one of those. No, S-60, I'll keep my old Z-28. Nay, I'll even keep my new Civic over your "chick-magnet" Volvo.
