Mercedes-Benz has announced that they intend to re-introduce a four-cylinder engine into the C-Class Mercedes for the first time in the U.S. market since 2005. Mercedes also says a diesel variant will be on the way as well.
As Leftlane reported earlier this month, Mercedes was expected to release new engine options for the freshened C-Class and now we have confirmed at least two of the engines coming to U.S. soil. Mercedes-Benz USA president Ernst Lieb has confirmed that a gasoline-powered four-cylinder engine will be available in addition to the BluTec four-cylinder diesel variant – both coming to U.S. shores.
Although an exact arrival date for the much-anticipated BluTec diesel was not given, here is what we do know: Lieb says the diesel will arrive with the next generation C-Class due for the 2011 model year, it will be available before production shifts to Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 2014, and Lieb said, “We can’t wait that long before bringing the four-cylinder diesel engine in.”
Official specifications and pictures have not yet been released for the upcoming C-Class, but we have caught some spy photos found here.
