I really like the newest one, not sure why no one else does. I'm not a fan of the two previous generations, the mid 90s and the previous one. The styling seems too plain for my standards. For those of you like me who dig the new CL, check out desktopmachine.com for some neat wallpapers.

I noticed the first four cars in the side view lineup all look very revolutionary from the year before.... the last 3 very similar, I am afraid we as humans are either running out of ideas or people are too afraid to make a statement anymore. I find the last 3 purely evolutionary when compared to the first 4...

"It's funny how gas prices are at record highs, but the cars we make keep getting bigger."
The answer is simple. It's because people who drive/ride the cars are getting bigger themselves (From all that fast food, sugar, fattening foods, etc.), therefore they need bigger cars with more interior room.

Scott, the SLC did have a backseat and was produced until 1981. It was replaced by the all-new SEC in 1982 (at least in the US). The SLC did look like a stretched SL, which was odd, but it was still a decent looking car.

from some angles and some nicely shot photos, i think the car looks great (except the front). from some images - i think it looks awkward. proof will be in the sheetmetal. either way, seems like the nose of the car looks like crapola. not a very strong design. bland. the rear seems to strike me the same way. i'm also not a big fan of the interior. oh well. i'm not buying either way. piece of crap with 3-pointed star.

^ I agree. It did change though, I do like the last generation CL as well. The new CL resembles the 6 series BMW and the Bently Continental GT a lot more than the old one IMO. I think that's why Mercedes changed it so drastically. It seems that even if you don't like these Bangle-ish designs, they are the future.

They appear to like to alternate between beautiful and, well, not.

Scott,

The SEC replaced the SLC. I'm pretty sure the SLC did have a rear seat. Ungainly looking beast--I cannot imagine they stretched the wheelbase ten inches but still didn't include a back seat.

The Low-production, Short-lived SLC wasn't technically a coupe (by some definitions) since it was a two-seater. All it was, was an SL from that style with a fixed roof, and I personally liked the SEC from that era Much better. Cool article.
