Mercedes has introduced a new feature called Search and Send that allows you to send Google and Yahoo driving directions directly to your car’s navigation system. The system works with software installed on your home computer that allows you to send directions from either source directly to the car’s navigation system. The new system will also allow you to send directions via a PDA.
Search and Send will bow on September 5 in the S, CL, and new C-Class. BMW already offers a similar system.

I’m just waiting for all the rantings about how unnecessary this is……
I think it’s cool.

BMW has this service in Germany with Google Maps for the last year and a half. I wonder if/when BMW will ever bring this to the US and if they will offer it to current nav owners.

Huh. I can’t believe it! A practical use of the way-too-complex Command system.

Good idea. Kind of reminds me of the security system I had on my Volvo where I could remote start it from the web

Great! Now you can type in your destination outside your car rather than in it! FANTASTIC! MY LIFE HAS BEEN MADE WORTH LIVING! MORE TECHY NONSENSE TO CLOG IT UP!

This system is actually based on an old military navigation and targeting system. If you press Up-Up-Down-Down-Left-Right-Left-Right-B-A-B-A you’ll drop a PGM on the car in front of you.

Why not just use voice command, or the command search- location option? it’s nice, but obsolete

I like the idea of having a meeting and beaming the location to the car before I leave. Its faster than writing down an address and entering into the nav.
If this works well I may encourage my field sales reps to buy BMW and MBs. This way I can email the details of a new meeting to a blackberry and beam the location to their car when they are in the field. Anything to make them more efficient and make me more money.
I can see it now. If they spend 3 minutes entering addresses into the nav and they see 8 clients a day, I could get an additional day worth of work out of them each month.

Driven I’d say if your sales people have to have enter every single address into a nav system then you have a bunch of retards working for you. Besides, it probably still takes 2 minutes to go thru the rigmarole of getting this crap uploaded this way, so the 8 minute time savings will only be used for them to pull over in an empty park and choke the chicke.
And if your salespeople are too stupid to plot out a map the nite before with their customer visits then they blithering idiots are winging it far too much, and you are a poor coach.
