Mercedes prepping 510 horsepower S63 AMG?

11/18/2005, 3:45 PM

By admin

Hans G. Lehmann snapped some photos of a prototype for the forthcoming Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG. The photos themselves are not overly revealing — the car pictured is lacking production body skirts, fascias, and wheels — but what’s important is they seem to confirm the German automaker has an ultra powerful flagship sedan in the works. The 2005 S65 manages to reach 60mph in just 4.2 seconds, so it will be interesting to see what sort of numbers Mercedes and AMG will be able to achieve this time around. AMG’s new 510 horsepower 6.3-liter engine — believed to be under the hood of the car in these spy shots — is expected to be the basis for several upcoming AMG hotrods. Mercedes has already confirmed it will build the R63 AMG, and there’s speculation about a C-Class variant, as well as practically every other Mercedes model.
