Mercedes said Friday it would recall some 50,000 A-Class and Vaneo because of a potential problem with the windshield wipers. The luxury maker has been plagued by reliability problems over the last few years that have tarnished its image. The affected cars were made between April, 2002 and March, 2003. Earlier this year, Mercedes recalled 1.3 million vehicles — the largest recall in its history — to fix problems with their alternators and batteries. Shares of Daimler Chrysler were down 1.2 per cent to 43.98 euros ($53.05) in Frankfurt trading.
