DaimlerChrysler – we won’t be typing that much longer – posted a hefty increase for its Mercedes-Benz car unit in the second quarter of ‘07. Profits were up 72 percent over the same period in ‘06, when the car division was in the red.
The group posted a 1.2 billion euro profit in the second quarter, for a total of 2 billion euros in the first half of the calendar year. During the second quarter of last year, Mercedes’ car unit lost 690 million euros.
The same was not true for Mercedes’ truck unit, which saw a 77 percent drop over the previous year. Still, the truck unit has been profitable during the first six months of the year as a whole.

Well that’s really to hear… I’ll hold my breath for a little longer, Although I don’t like the C class, it comes by as a bland design to me.

the new C class looks bland as a base model but the sport versions with the Amg design package looks very good

I’m blown away by the number of GL Series SUVs on the road, not to mention the seemlingly short period of time its been out. One MotorTrend SUV Of The Year award and WHAMMO! That is one hell of a good looking vehicle. The S and CL series are faves too.

Funny how the new LLN writer is editorializing everything: “DaimlerChrysler – won’t be typing that much longer.”
Refreshing….

The new C class and ML are moving the bulk of sales, I THINK. The designs on both are first rate.

GL’s sell well… also C-Class sales are up 23%, I would assume that this is because of great lease deals.

Big surprise, now that they no longer have to keep Chrysler afloat.

Good for them but the crappy interior of the old and even the new C Class isn’t worthy of the Mercedes name.

The GL trounces the (overrated) Tahcalade and the Navidition for less money. Plus it’s a Benz, not some lowly Ford or GM. The brand alone goes a long way. People actually aspire to own Mercedes instead of buying into the whole Bling Bling crap.

Deanster, I’ve seen a 2006 ML burned down when it’s parked without the engine on for no freakin reason. Another of my friend’s have had a constant problem with dying electrical equipments. Benz SUV’s are overrated.
As for the design of the new C, the exterior of the C280 looks really dated, much like your grandpa’s car. The C350 is somewhat acceptable. Of course, looking at the pics online will make you think otherwise.

CTS DRIVER: Incorrect, Mercedes is for those who are too cheap but wants to get a luxury brand due to its high resale. The true kings of bling bling has always been Cadillac and Bentley.

You will see just as much BMW’s as you will see Mercedes in rap videos. And MB’s quality has improved greatly from that era which no MB owner will want to remember. And the C-Class looks much better and bolder than the weak 3-Series.
