Daimler Chrysler – we won’t be typing that much longer – posted a hefty increase for its Mercedes-Benz car unit in the second quarter of ’07. Profits were up 72 percent over the same period in ’06, when the car division was in the red.
The group posted a 1.2 billion euro profit in the second quarter, for a total of 2 billion euros in the first half of the calendar year. During the second quarter of last year, Mercedes’ car unit lost 690 million euros.
The same was not true for Mercedes’ truck unit, which saw a 77 percent drop over the previous year. Still, the truck unit has been profitable during the first six months of the year as a whole.
