A report coming out of Poland indicates that Mercedes-Benz will publicly unveil a diesel-powered SLS AMG GT at the Paris Motor Show that will open its doors in a little over two months.

The rumor claims that the CDI-powered SLS AMG GT uses an all-new six-cylinder diesel mill that is fed with three turbochargers, a setup that was inaugurated by BMW on its M Performance lineup earlier this year.

Eager to outrun its long-time rival, Mercedes' tri-turbo diesel is said to send about 400 horsepower and an earth-shattering 737 lb-ft. of torque to the rear wheels.

More precise technical details such as the engine's exact displacement are not currently available.

The diesel-burning SLS AMG GT will be presented as a prototype and it has not yet been given the green light for production. Mercedes isn't sure that it can make a sound business case for the car as its main clientele would undoubtedly be the depressed European market.

If the Parisian public's response is positive the car could be added to the Mercedes catalog as a regular-production model in 2013. If not, it will merely showcase a new engine that will be found under the hood of AMG-tuned models in the coming years.

AMG has only tuned a single diesel-powered model in its illustrious history, the Europe-only C30 AMG CDI that was briefly offered about ten years ago.
