Contrary to several published reports, Mercedes said today that it will not discontinue the G-Class SUV. The car continues to be very popular among customers, and it has been part of the Mercedes product lineup for
the past 26 years. Recent reports had suggested the truck would be discontinued after the launch of the new GL-Class. The vehicle’s striking shape, which has remained nearly unchanged over a period of almost three decades, has made the “G a design classic with cult status. Together with its legendary ruggedness, the off-roader’s design has contributed most to its popularity. The SUV will continue to be built by Magna Steyr. Meanwhile, Mercedes announced it will product the all-new 2007/2008 E-Class in-house at the Daimler Chrysler plant in Sindelfingen.
