According to Mercedes-Benz ’s United States Chief, Ernst Lieb, the German automaker is working on a version of its B-Class for U.S. sale. The B-Class, tall hatchback slotted below the C-Class sedans, has been for sale in Canada since late 2005, but has never been sold in the U.S.
The U.S. B-Class is reportedly being developed for the 2011 model year. Mercedes initially considered importing the current model to the U.S., but a variety of factors have prevented the model’s arrival. Bloomberg says that Mercedes has primarily cited the strong euro/week dollar exchange rate because the B-Class would have to be priced out of its class as it’s built in Germany. The B-Class would also potentially hurt sales of Mercedes’ higher-line models, much like the A-Class has done in certain European markets.
