On the contrary, having owned both vehicles (for business of course), makes me more than suitable to comment on their comparison. I have nothing against any brands save GM cause they don’t make me $. Someone at Benz must really be convinced that an overgrown and vastly overpriced Smart is going to sell to a few idiots at any cost. If youve ever spent time overseas cheaper mercedes dont dilute the image at all. This is exactly the kind of backwards VW marketing (jetta to phaeton, rather than the opposite) that could make it more successful and profitable, just like Porsche and the Cayenne. Make them luxurious enough and AMG it with a fast sporty version and there’ll be no excuse not to bring it here.

If it comes to America, I would expect they bring it up to luxury-spec with all it’s other vehicles. Not all Mercedes are luxury vehicles, but generally in America Mercedes they are percieved that way.
Global Lightnings first comment *cough* had a good point, get the exchange rates working for you. I don’t know how the Germans would percieve the quality there-after, but it would be a plausible move.

No, the US Si is one ugly crap that’s fortunately a reliable ride. I’d take the Euro type R with its modern interior over the new C Class. I swear the C has the most uncomfortable seats even compared to the Honda Fit. The knobs on the instrument panel also felt way too cheap compared to the outgoing model. But they’ll buy it anyway cause it’s a C Class…

The B series was doing so bad regardless of the star badge that they’ve stopped importing it to certain markets. Just think about it, those of you who have had the opportunity to actually sit inside the new C Class would notice the cheap interior of even the C350. Now if the B class is even worse, it’s in the Honda Fit category. It’s just so damn overpriced and not even that good of a car. heck I’d take a Civic first…

1. Build it in the U.S. and export it to Europe. Get that Dollar/Euro exchange rate working for you.
2. People interested in tall compacts won’t be interested in a traditional luxury sedan. This vehicle will compete against the Mazda5 and the coming crap-flood of cross-overs. The B-Class will bring in new buyers to MB rather than canibalize C-Class sales.

The B-Class would also potentially hurt sales of Mercedes’ higher-line models, much like the A-Class has done in certain European markets.
