MG brand cars are set to go on sale in China next month in an effort to revive the once British marque. MG’s Chinese owners, Nanjing Automobile Group, will launch the China-made MG 7 series through its nearly 50 dealers nationwide in September. Nanjing Automobile Group acquired the MG brand in a 2005 takeover of MG Rover.
MG officials said they received 3,200 orders during a July road show in selected cities. Officials admit that brand recognition will be a problem in China, saying “The MG brand is not well known in China, but many people who test-drove the car said they liked it.”
According to Automotive News, MG will offer four versions of its MG 7. There will be three models using a 1.8 liter engine, starting out at $22,630, with one long version of the MG 7 costing $39,940 and using a 2.5 liter engine. The MG 7 is expect to launch in Europe by the end of the year.
