MG is developing a new Roadster convertible model based on its Icon crossover concept, a new report finds. The MG Roadster will follow the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet into the untested waters of the convertible crossover segment.

According to the UK's Auto Express, China-owned MG will revive the spirit of the iconic MGB Roadster with a new convertible model based on the Icon show car. As you may recall, the Icon concept debut earlier this year at the Beijing Motor Show.

The new Roadster will borrow most of its styling cues from the Icon and will feature a conventional cloth roof. Given its crossover roots, the Roadster will ride higher than most convertibles on the market.

Power for the Roadster is expected to be provided by a 1.5L four-cylinder developing 109 horsepower. Buyers will have the option of a five-speed manual or a five-speed automatic.

The MG Roadster will reportedly make production sometime in 2015 with a starting price of £14,000, or about $22,000.
